Affirmation of God: I return to the freedom of Christ.

Today’s Scripture: 2 Peter 2:22 NLT: They prove the truth of this proverb: “A dog returns to its vomit.” And another says, “A washed pig returns to the mud.”

Are we so different from these people referred to in 2 Peter 2? We know the freedom of Christ; we profess this freedom and yet return to our own mud holes from time to time. 2 Peter 2 has called me back this morning to remind me of my frailty and my freedom.

2 Peter 2:20 says these people had escaped the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. However, they became entangled and enslaved by sin again. If we are honest, most of us can slip into our own sins quickly and as promised we are worse off than before.

Yet, when I read 2 Peter 2:22 again this morning, I am filled with praise that I can prove the truth of the grace of Jesus Christ. I can return to the freedom of Christ.

Are you willing to return to the freedom of Christ?

Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thank You LORD for saving me from the wickedness of this world. Forgive me LORD for when I return to my vomit or my mud. You LORD know my sins and You LORD know how to keep me in Christ. Help me LORD to stay; to live in the freedom of Christ I profess. Amen

Affirmation of God: God has planted eternity in my heart.

Today’s Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT: Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

No matter the season; no matter what is going on today; God has planted eternity in our hearts. Whether we are in a laborious season or a joyous season, this time will pass.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 states there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

May we be reminded of this eternal perspective God has given us regardless of the season. LORD keep us humble when we are in a good place and give us hope when we are not. “GOD HAS MADE EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN ITS OWN TIME”. What a great promise and eternal perspective.

Can you sense the eternity God has placed in your heart?

Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for planting eternity in my heart. Keep me ever mindful of the eternal perspective when living the seasons of this life. Thank You for making everything beautiful. Continue to fill my heart LORD. Help me to fear only You and to keep your commands. Amen

Affirmation of God: Wherever I am the hand of the Lord leads me and His right hand holds me.

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 139:10 NKJ: Even there shall your hand lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

Even here LORD? We are all at different places at this very moment. Some are in a great place, some are hurting, sick, angry, or lost.  Some are dying and some are living in joy, confusion, denial or consumed by lusts. Some are on top of the world and some are living in the pits of hell. Yet, even here the LORD is with us.

Psalm139:1 says “You have searched me and known me.” God knows where we are. Can I comprehend Him knowing my every move, your every move? No, and David acknowledges that in 139:6. We just can not attain that kind of knowledge. I don’t know why or how but just believe He is.

We can trust that in our lowest of lows and highest of highs that the hand of the LORD will lead us and hold us in the way of everlasting.

Will you take God’s hand where you are?

Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being here. I am taking Your hand LORD. Guide me and hold me in Your everlasting ways. You know me LORD better than I know myself and I pray now in thanksgivings, praise and in hope of Your guiding hand. Thank You LORD for being here. Amen

Affirmation of God: God knows how.

Today’s Scripture: So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment., 2 Peter 2:9 NLT

How many dreams and desires have we let die or keep us enslaved because we did not know the “how to”. I cannot conceive how to get from here to there.

Whether I have needed rescuing or even sought to complete what God is calling me to do I have been guilty of saying I just don’t know how. How crazy that I can confess being led by God and yet come back to the thirty six square inches of my brain to try to take over the how to.

God, created this world, He created us and 2 Peter 2 tells us He knows how. God, I confess I do not know how but I believe You do. LORD, please rescue me from me. I will go boldly in faith in You and Your know how.

Do you believe that God knows how to get you where He wants you?

Today’s Prayer:  Almighty Father, I believe You know and will provide the how to. Forgive me for trusting in my understanding of how I am to move. LORD I trust You will reveal and provide the how to as I provide the small amount of faith and ability I have. I trust Your seed has been planted in me and You know how to make it grow. Thank You for rescuing me. Amen

Affirmation of God: The truth will live in me forever.

Today’s Scripture: 2 John 1:2 NLT:  because the truth lives in us and will be with us forever.

There is such comfort in “forever”, isn’t there? Grace, mercy and peace are found in the truth and love of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.

We are instructed to walk in this love here in 2 John and to love one another. Not only does the truth live in us but we are to live in the love of this truth. As we walk and live in the truth of Jesus we will reflect His love.

Loving right is better than being right. We know the truth, and the truth will be with us forever. Jesus came in the flesh to give us His love and we will live in it and it will live in us forever. Our instruction in 2 John is to live in the teachings of Christ and not to go on without them.

Will you live in the truth forever?

Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Son Jesus and the love and commandments He brought to us. Help us to rest, live and walk in His love. LORD, live in us and through us today. We will confess our love for You and Your love will confess Yourself through us. Amen

Affirmation of God: God’s perfection is in me.

Today’s Scripture: Matthew 5:48 ESV: You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

As a young boy I found this verse in a moment of extreme nervousness for a church play. I reached for a bible because I needed relief. What I found was peace in God’s perfection and not mine.

It took me years to find this verse again and even more years to give up on trying to be perfect myself. The life Jesus is calling us to here in Matthew chapters 5-7 is only possible through seeking first the kingdom of God.

As Jesus taught us we must begin by being poor in spirit; poor in our own spirit, poor in our mind and flesh. Our acceptance of our poverty and the awareness of God’s riches open up His Kingdom that is perfect. We need the perfection of God to live as Jesus teaches and to fulfill His promise.

Do you believe that God’s perfection is in you?

Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for your words to us. Thank You for revealing Your Spirit that is perfect. Help me to live in Your Spirit. I know my spirit is poor and impure while Your Spirit is pure and rich. Hold me close LORD and keep the eyes of my heart on Your Spirit. Amen

Affirmation of God: I have a living hope in Jesus Christ.

Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 1:3 NIV: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Hope found in faith brings hope to life. Peter was sharing with us here a hope he had come to know; a living hope. Peter witnessed Jesus and is promising to us that we too can know this hope.

Though our hopes will be tested, turning to the hope of God gives us joy and peace.  The Holy Spirit gives us confidence in what Jesus Christ did for us and in God’s plans for us. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead works in us. In this power our hopes live.

Believing in Jesus brings us an inexpressible joy that is filled with glory and hope. Hoping in Him brings hope alive. This hope in Jesus Christ is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. Why would we seek to hope in anything or anyone else?

Are your hopes alive in Christ?

Today’s Prayer: LORD God my hopes are alive in You. I thank You for the saving grace of Jesus and for the filling of Your Holy Spirit that gives life to the hopes You have given me. All of my hope is in You. Fill me with Your hope and the desires of Your heart. In You I live. Amen

Affirmation of God: I live on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Today’s Scripture: Matthew 4:4 ESV:  But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”

I have certainly found life in the Word of God but have quite a ways to go to live on every word. The Spirit is helping me and leading me but I am yet to be up to the challenge of evil and myself.

As the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness He is leading us. As Jesus fasted for forty days and nights we are also being prepared. The tempter showed up when Jesus was at his weakest and yet the word of God saved Him when His flesh was reduced.

I pray to be prepared by every word of God. I am yet to be up to the challenge. I still fail when I am at my best. I trust the leading of the Spirit and I will follow Jesus and continue to grow in maturity to past the test. Then I will be living!

Are you equipping yourself with the Word of God?

Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Spirit and for Your Word. Forgive me for my weakness and my sins. Help me to grow and live on Your every word. Prepare me against the tempter. Strengthen me with Your Word to past the test. You and Your Word are my life. Amen

Affirmation of God: I desire the Father’s will over my own.

Today’s Scripture: Mark 14:36 ESV: And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

Our will, our flesh, can lead us contrary to God’s will can’t it? As Jesus said to the disciples just two verses later in Mark: 14:38 “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (ESV) We must stay alert and pray.

Selfishly going and doing what I want only robs me of God’s will and witnessing His miracles. I need God’s help in asking where I should go and what I should do. Too many times I just go and do what I want. If I only would recall that His will is fulfilling, impactful and eternal.

The disciples asked, they went and they found just what Jesus told them they would. We just need to ask, to go and trust we will find what God tells us we will.

Will we ask Jesus where we are to go today? Do we desire His will over our own?

Today’s Prayer: Abba Father, all things are possible for You and I ask You to show me Your will. LORD, where do You want me to go? Help me to hear You clearly and help me to desire Your will over my own. Build up my spirit so that I will allow You to overcome my flesh. I trust I will find what You promise. Amen
