Today’s Affirmation: The blessings of the Lord make me rich.

Today’s Affirmation: The blessings of the Lord make me rich.

What does “rich” mean to you? I have heard of rich chocolate or rich soil. Man, are they rich! Is rich the same as wealth?

This affirmation is drawn from Proverbs 10:22:

    “God’s blessing makes life rich;
   nothing we do can improve on God.” (The message)

God is taking me down a path today. It began through a thought about an old memory verse of mine. Deuteronomy 8:18.

“But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…” (NIV)

I thought we would discuss following God and trusting in His calling and He would provide me the ability to create the “wealth” I need to maintain my lifestyle or feed my family in the manner they are accustomed. Is that what He is saying or is that what I want to hear to be “comfortable”?

Then I tripped over Revelation 2:9 this morning that made me reflect.     “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); (NKJV)

God knows our poverty…but we are rich. Although we are in poverty we are rich. Hmmm, what does that say to you?

  1. In what ways are you rich?
  2. What is your definition of rich?
  3. Even in your poverty can you know you are rich?

We are blessed with the richness of God. May we reflect on that today and be thankful and encouraged. In our richness may we produce fruit.

What are your thoughts?

  1. I love the song, “Lord you are more precious than silver, Lord you are more costly that gold, Lord you are more beautiful than diamonds. And nothing I desire compares with you.” I met a lady yesterday standing in line to order a sandwich. She had spent the night with her sister-n-law in ICU at the hospital. I followed her to the drink machine to ask if I might pray for her and the family. Then she told me how God had allowed her to share some scripture with another family there in ICU. Then she said to me, “You know there is one thing in life that I cannot do without, my faith in Jesus.” I agree, “There is nothing in life that compares with my Jesus, for he is my hope, my life, my all.” And yes, there are those out there that would say, “Take it away all away, and let’s see how she feels then. My needing Jesus has nothing to do with the things I have, it has all to do with the desperate condition if I do not have him. Without Him I could do nothing, I would be enslaved, I would be hopeless.

    Now THAT is rich. To think about NOT having Jesus makes us feel so rich in what we do have in Him. Nothing else really matters, does it?! Thanks Patsy!

  3. Tom, I have missed your devotions. Been on vacation, sick, ???? I am praying for you. Hope all is well with. Looking forward to hearing from you.

      Patsy, thank you soooo much. It has just been crazy. I had several meetings, vacations and family illnesses that have taken me off task. This has served to remind me how easy the deceiver can distract us from our message and our time with God. Your checking in meant a lot to me and I pray to be back on track and look forward to getting back to reading your blogs and the others. I have just been out of it…thanks again for the encouragement!!
