Affirmation of God: Jesus loves me to the end.

Today’s Scripture: Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. John 13:1

Jesus knew it was His Last Supper and He knows ours. Although you and I cannot see the end we can know Jesus will love us to it.

We, like Jesus, came from God and are going back to Him. He knew He was in His final hours and what did He desire to do? Wash the feet, serve, His disciples. If we knew this was our last supper would we serve those around us?

Do we understand what Jesus has done for us?

Jesus has given us His promises and His love as well as His example and we should accept and give His love to the end.

He promised we would be blessed if we live in and give His love. I believe Jesus knew then and now and He will love me to the end.

Will we give the love and the words that God has given us today as if it was our last?

Today’s Prayer:  Jesus, thank You for loving me and giving me Your example. I am living in Your love. Help me to live today as if it was my last. Help me to see who I may serve and love today. I am giving the words You have given to me and pray to be one with You. Amen

Affirmation of God: I go and find what Jesus promises.

Today’s Scripture: And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. Mark 11:4 ESV

As we make decisions as to where we will go are we listening to Jesus?

At some point each of us has to decide where to go, don’t we? We can get lost in all of the questions and fears.  Many questions fall away when we trust what Jesus has already told us. These two disciples in Mark 11 were sent to gather the colt for Jesus. The right disciples for the right time to provide what Jesus needed.

Jesus knew the colt would be there for them and knew the questions the disciples would face. He has seen our future too. Will we trust His vision and His promises or will we be frozen by fears and lack of understanding? Just as those two, the village we are to enter may well be right in front of us and we have already been told to go.

Will you go?

Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for instructing me. Please be specific as You were with these disciples in Mark’s gospel. Please tell me and instruct me where I may go to help You. I will go Lord and trust Your promises and Your vision. Please give me the words to say and the eyes to see Your promise. Amen

Affirmation of God: I live by the power of God.

Today’s Scripture: For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God. 2 Corinthians 13:4 ESV

Do we live as if God’s power is with us? Our God is faithful and I love it when He stands at the intersection of life and His Promises.

He is always standing there and yet often we do not see or recognize His power. We claim His power yet live as if the power found in the flesh or the world is somehow more real. I am preaching to myself here (and maybe you).

Paul continues to challenge us in 2 Corinthians 13:5. Do we realize Jesus Christ is in us? Test yourself; do you live in the power of Jesus? Are we also crucified in our weaknesses? I am glad I am weak because it is at this intersection of weakness and power that I find the power of God and Jesus in me.

Are you living in God’s power?

Today’s Prayer: God, thank You for Your power and your Son. I know You are with me. Help me to live in Your power. Help me to act boldly and courageously trusting in Your power. Forgive me for seeking the false promises of power this world has to offer. My life is in Your power and help me to faithfully live with Jesus. Thank You Jesus for living in me. Amen

Affirmation of God: I give God my heart.

Today’s Scripture: My sons, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. Proverbs 23:26 ESV

Who or what will we give our hearts to today? Not lip service but our very heart. Who and what will we chase after today?

This seems to be where the rubber meets the road and where the conflict of life and God’s instruction intersect. When our feet hit the floor and we begin today’s race where are we running? What is the focus of our eyes and our hearts? Proverbs 23 is full of promise and warning.

Are we tempted to run after worldly deceptions or will we apply our hearts to God’s instructions? Will we direct our hearts in the way of God or the ways of man?

This is hard in the face of today but our Redeemer is strong! Let the LORD rejoice in our hearts and fill them with hope.

Who and what will receive your heart today? Praying we give it up to God.

Today’s Prayer: LORD God, I give You my heart. I need Your power and Your instruction to guide my heart in Your ways. Help me to acquire Your truth, Your wisdom, instruction and understanding. Help me to give  my heart and my eyes to Your Way today and every day. Do with my heart what you will. Amen

Affirmation of God: I turn to the LORD.

Today’s Scripture: But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 2 Corinthians 3:16 ESV

We give clues to where we are turned don’t we? Just this weekend I made some ugly statements. As soon as the words came out of my mouth I knew they were wrong. I feel the regret of sounding like, well, sounding like Tom.

When I turn to Tom some ugly things come forth yet when I turn to the LORD the Spirit of this living God comes forth.

The LORD taught me this lesson in real life. That is because He is real and He is life. 2 Corinthians 3 tells us this much. The Spirit of the Living God writes on our hearts. Turning to the Spirit of the LORD what comes out of us is Him.

As stated in verse five we are insufficient. When we turn to ourselves people read condemnation. When we turn to the LORD, we find life and we speak life into others for the Spirit is life.

Where are you turned?

Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Spirit who writes You on our hearts. Forgive me for when I turn away. I am insufficient and know all of my hope is in You and Your Spirit to give life. My only confidence is in Your Spirit. Help me to stay turned to You constantly. Amen

Affirmation of God: I talk of God’s help all day long.

Today’s Scripture: And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt. Psalm 71:24 ESV

Do you believe God is in all things? David’s commitment to talk about God all day long thousands of years ago still speaks loudly to me. The shouts of his soul bring shouts of joy from my soul too.

Like David, I am beginning to realize the almighty presence of God in all things. I can praise Him from the mountaintops and I can trust He will revive me from the depths. I have come to trust God in all things. My good and my bad I know God is there. I know He is there to help me even when I turn away.

My God who created me in love loves me. The LORD, ALONE, is my righteousness. The good, the bad and the ugly my God is there. The more I include Him in my conversations all day long the more I live with Him.

Will you talk of God’s help all day today?

Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, I praise You and thank You for being in all things. In You, O LORD, I put my trust, my hope, my strength and my praise continually. Thank You for being close. I tell everyone of Your salvation and Your righteousness all day long. You alone are my strength and my source of joy. Amen

Affirmation of God: I set my mind on things of God.

Today’s Scripture: But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” Matthew 16:23 ESV

Bouncing back and forth between Matthew 16 and Luke 9 this morning I witness how our minds can be worlds apart in an instant.

When we look to ourselves or look to others we lose contact with God. A “living God” we are told. A God who is alive wants our minds set on Him. When we deny our minds and follow Jesus we find life.

Matthew 16:25 assures us that when we give up our lives we find it. Our minds can not comprehend this but our soul knows when we are there. I can not trust my mind yet I can give it to God and set it there. When we give our minds to God we receive our soul.

When we live from our soul we are who we are to be and we do what we are to do; we find life.

Where will you set your mind today?

Today’s Prayer: Lord God, I give you my mind. Help me to deny myself and follow after You. Reveal to my soul the cross I am to carry. Help me to proclaim Your glory and Your life. Help me to set my mind on You and live by faith in what Jesus reveals to me. Amen

Affirmation of God: I love the LORD with all I have.

Today’s Scripture: And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30 ESV

ALL; how can three letters encompass so much? Jesus is telling us the greatest commandment. Love our LORD with ALL of our hearts, ALL of our souls, ALL of our minds and ALL of our strength.

Is that all that is needed? Here in Mark 12 Jesus tells us it is most important to love God and love others. Why do we try to add technicalities to this? Like the Pharisees of years ago, human nature is still trying to add to this with man made rules and traps. Why do we complicate what God has made simple?

Like the widow who gave out her poverty at the end of this chapter may we realize our poverty of love. Let’s give God the little love that we have and see what He does with it. Give Him all we have. Turning away from all the attempts to debate and just love. That’s all.

Do you spend more time trying to understand God’s mysteries or giving Him your all?

Today’s Prayer: Father God, I praise You and love You. I give You all that I am and have. I can love in abundance because of my poverty of love. You are my love and I offer up all of my heart, my soul, my mind and my strength to You.  I have little but know You have all. Amen

Affirmation of God: God strengthens me.

Today’s Scripture: Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Isaiah 35:3 ESV

Have you ever felt weak and feeble? Do you ever have anxiety? In 35:4 Isaiah says: Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.”

Our God has promised to come and save us; have no fear.

As you steady my knees Father please lead me down the highway of holiness you promise in Isaiah 35:8. You promise that even a fool like me can walk this road and not be led astray. This I hang on to today. Strengthen me LORD, steady me and lead in me in Your way.

Will you trust God and pause at the next onset of worry, anxiety and fear and ask God to strengthen and steady you?

Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, You are my God. I give You my fears and anxieties and trust You to save me. Open my eyes and ears mighty God. Help me to see and hear you clearly and to trust in your power. May I see that all my strength is in You. Amen

Affirmation of God: I am out of my mind.

Today’s Scripture: And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” Mark 3:21 ESV

If the world and those around us think we are out of our mind we may be where we want to be. Mark 3 tells of how Jesus’ own family thought He was out of His mind.

Out of my mind is EXACTLY where I want to be. My mind can not grasp the Kingdom of God yet my heart can receive it. Four years ago God gave me the ears to hear him in this simple parable of the sower in Mark 4.

I better understand His words today yet I trust them more than I understand them. This parable of the seeds on the path of life proves true.  When the words take root they take time to become fruitful. Our minds and the voices of this world will attempt to kill these fruits.

Jesus’ words will withstand the harsh elements of this path. How is your soil? Are you out of your mind?

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, thank You for Your word. Take root and be fruitful in me. Thank you for my brothers and sisters who enrich my soil. LORD do a mighty work in my soul and keep me out of my mind. Please continue to give me ears to hear and give me Your mind and Your Spirit to walk the path You have planned for me. Amen
